Arts and Crafts Hack Day

Arts and Craft Hack Day

Arts and Craft Hack Day

Title: Arts and Crafts Hack Day
Description: Conductive thread at the ready, it’s the Madlab Arts and Crafts hack day!
Start Time: 10:00
Date: 2010-01-30
End Time: 16:00

If you’re a traditional arts and crafts type of person but fancy introducing some electronic interactivity into the things you make then this is the event for you.

Alternatively if you’re a dyed in the wool (ouch) digital nerd but fancy getting your hands dirty with something a bit more analogue then it’s your event too!

So what kind of projects could you work on? A good place to start is with a battery, a bunch of LEDs and some conductive thread; or, for the more ambitious, there’s the Lilypad Arduino a small sewable computer which can react to it’s environment and respond with sound, light or touch! For inspiration, take a look at…
* O’Reilly’s Craft magazine (http://craftzine.com), sister publication to Make (http://makezine.com)

* Leah Buechley (inventor of the Lilypad)’s projects page: http://thehighlowtech.com/projects/index.html

* The rather brilliant Fashioning Technology website: http://www.fashioningtech.com/

If you are neither, don’t worry and come one down. It’s a day for ALL stripes of crafters. Bring your knitting, crocheting, felting, sewing….anything and everyone is welcome.

Running order:

10am: Hello and introductions
10.30am: Electronics for the uninitiated
11am: Get hacking!
1pm: Lunch etc.
4pm: Wrap up with a show and tell
4.30pm: Social

While it would be great to have you all day, you can drop in or leave any time.
