Start Time: 19:00
Date: 2012-02-20
End Time: 21:00

If you are interested in Digital DJ’ing, we would like to warmly welcome to our new group at the MadLab. Our first meeting is on the 20th February 2012, 7-9pm. We welcome users of any DJ’ing software, whether it be Traktor, Serato, Ableton, Virtual DJ or any other, to share their knowledge of using their software or to come along and get advice and tips how to better use it. If you have no experience in digital DJ’ing come along and see if its for you and find out what you need to get set up.

For our first meeting we would like to get your views on what you would like to get out of the monthly meet ups. Topics could include, but not limited to:

  • How tag and organisation your music
  • Create custom midi-mappings
  • Share how you use combinations of effects
  • Discuss interesting ways you mix
  • Creating Mixes and sharing them online

Please bring along your laptop, midi-controller and sound card, MadLab has a PA we can can plug into.

If you are interested in coming, please leave a comment below!

*THIS IS NOT A CLUB NIGHT, it is a room for discussion and sharing the love of DJing.

    Hi

Please do leave a response here, so that we can guage numbers for the night etc.

  2. I am so up for this! Can’t wait. Thanks for setting this up.

  3. Dave Mee says:

We need to develop a mixer for 3.5mm headphone jacks. I’ll drag the rest of the iPhone Dorkestra over.

  4. Andrew S says:

I would be interested in this too :)

  5. David Craddock says:

    I’m up for this!

  6. Will Long says:

Sounds great. I actually play vinyl but use my mate’s Traktor often. I’m keen on the last point “Creating Mixes and sharing them online” as that forms part of my day job – interesting to hear more.

  7. UGFL says:

looking forward to this. I’ll bring my laptop and maschine with me.

  8. Dan Hardiker says:

I’d love to come, however I’m not in the area. If it repeats, I’ll do my best to come along!

  9. @Will: I love you.
I play vinyl too and very reluctantly started playing CDs as well 2 years ago (just because it was the only way to play tracks that haven’t yet been cut on vinyl or never ever will be).

Still I’m interested in finding out what you’re all doing and see if I can do it too (without having to put glasses on!)

The day and time is bad for me, but this Monday 20th is perfect actually as it turns out.

  10. @Josh: CLAAAAAAAAAAAASS!!! :D

  11. Finn says:

    Hi guys
Appologies but I won’t be able to make it. I have got to much on this week. Would have loved to come along and join in

    Hope it goes well

    Finn

  12. Andy says:

    Im there! :)

  13. Matt Carson says:

Only just found this and it’s tonight! Really want to make it & really can’t. I’ve got my first gig using new gear and all-digital setup this Friday, so am madly prepping for it. Would love to come to future groups though.

FYI I’ve DJ’d for about 8 years using CDs (with a sprinkle of mp3s, but not much) and just this year am embarking on a massive conversion to digital. I’ve got a Novation Twitch, so will be using Serato Itch through my MacBook. I also play weird stuff – goth, metal, industrial, EBM, avant garde – so am really interested to find out how I can maximise the potential of my gear, how on earth I do beat-gridding (& is that of any use to me with my music styles), whether to blog my digital conversion and subsequent skilling-up, whether to invest in Platinum Notes to maximise the sound quality I’m outputting & whether to invest in Mixed In Key to try harmonic mixing (I have a traditional music background – woodwind – so this appeals).

So many questions. I hope that’s good input for your night tonight & I hope to join you soon :)

    Thanks, Matt

  14. Haroon K says:

@Matt, tonight session is getting things launched and listening to people and finding out what they want, so congrats you’ve already done some of that. I’m sure there will be another event, perhaps next next month if I can get the room. BTW checkout http://www.digitaldjtips.com a great source, many of the topics youve mentioned are discussed there, I just hope to bring them to the real world.

  15. Haroon K says:

Thanks for those that came tonight, great session.

  17. Haroon K says:

    Hi Vanviki

Thank you for your interest, we are a group local to the Manchester area. Should you move into the area you are welcome to join our next session. The digital DJ team are on a summer break at the moment and will look to start up again in the Autumn.
