DIYBio @ TED Global

DIYBio has been gaining a lot of global support of late, most recently at TED Global – which is happening in Edinburgh this week.  Friend-of-MadLab Ellen Jorgensen, of Genspace in New York, was invited to give a talk on the movement on Tuesday (26th). Explaining how her organisation (and other DIYBio labs) was set up, she said “Scientists are terrible at explaining what we do … Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place in the neighborhood where you could go and do it hands-on?” she went on to explain all the cool things you can do in a lab, like finding out what dog on your street is leaving everyone “presents” or if your organic cereal contains GM. The TED blog post is here and Ellen’s video will be up later in the year – look out for MadLab’s appearance in it! We’ll be announcing some very exciting DIYBio news ourselves soon, keep your eyes peeled for some exciting bio events headed your way this autumn. Details to follow…
