Title: Graphic Novel Book Club Preliminary Meeting
Location: MadLab
Description: Set up a Graphic Novel Reading group in Manchester
Start Time: 18:30
Date: 2010-03-11
End Time: 21:30

Thanks to all the people who commented on the newspost, there seemed enough to get going, so it’s settled! Let’s meet, read, draw and discuss.

Manchester’s finest comic book shop, Travelling Man are helping us out and will be at the first meeting to lend their support and expertise in starting us off in the right direction.

Jonathan from the Central Library will also be there to lend support.

This will be a preliminary meeting to establish a Graphic Novel/Comic/Comix book club: the agenda will cover

  • scoping out a reading list
  • direction of the group and format of meetings
  • deciding when to meet and at what regularity
  • what do call the group + twitter # if necessary

Equally, if you’d like to take a lead organising the group, also let us know – Madlab is for the community, by the community.

To kick things off, should be start a list or does everyone want to make one to bring on the day? The comments section can start us off.

Quick overview of the things agreed on.

First meeting takes place at 6:30pm on the 6th of April, and will hopefully continue on the first Tuesday of every month.

The Google group is above and the twitter hash tag is #Mad_GnG

The initial graphic novel shall be the Alan Moore classic ‘From Hell’, plenty of discussion there then. Like the Sci-fi group an alternative/complimentary piece shall be chosen, to save money they shall be webcomics, starting with the ridiculous ‘Axe Cop’ ( http://axecop.com/ )

Also floated was the idea of a comics/comix/graphic novel lending library, more details on this as we figure them out.

I shall write this up properly on the Google group later.
