Title: HAC:Manchester
Location: MadLab (Downstairs)
Description: HAC:Manchester are a hackspace group based in Greater Manchester.
Date: Most Wednesdays
Start Time: 19:00
End Time: 21:00

HAC:Manchester is a Hackspace Group, a community-run arts, science and technology club.  We run weekly drop-in workshop sessions, providing electronics, mechanical and computing knowledge, and tools for personal and group projects.

Our aim is to provide a space where people can work on their projects, hang out socially to talk about making things, plot world domination* and work together to develop their collective skills.

You’ll find us every Wednesday evening, downstairs at the MadLab, Manchester’s Geek Mecca.

Interested in getting in touch?  The HAC:Manchester website is at http://hacman.org.uk/,  we have a Mailing list, and an IRC channel [webirc], or if you’re in Manchester, just drop in!

    Hi

I’m clearing out my boxes and I have some stuff that a hacker might like, bluetooth and IR dongles, a couple of hard drives, one and a half palm PDAs – one’s drive is buggered, but the screen works, other one works fine, aside from being obsolete, a router or two and assorted cables, power supplies, battery packs, etc.

Any use to anyone? I’d rather not send it off to be dismantled by children in the slums of west Africa for its elemental components if someone else could use it.

I could probably drop a box off at the Madlab next week, if anyone likes.

Hi, I’m from the Preston area, you guys seem to be my nearest hackerspace group so I thought I’d give it a shot.I’m looking for someone to talk to about building custom midi interfaces. I was directed to you guys by John at highlyliquid.com
I have very little knowledge of electronics but I do have a concept of what I am aiming to do.
If you’d like to help or know someone who can please get in touch. I don’t have many resources, any space to work in, relevant skills or tools, but I know how to use a kettle :)
I am trying to integrate my music software with a wide range or sensors and switches that are much bigger and or much simpler to use than commercially available devices.
If you want to share some ideas please email me pushed (dot) button (@) hotmail (dot co dot uk)

M: We’d love to take any parts you want to donate off your hands, more tech to reuse is always awesome!

Adam: Cool, just turn up to any of our meetings, we’re always willing to share knowledge & tools.

  4. Dan Mills says:

On the parts thing, I will soon be moving house (Nasty, evil, we hates it!) and have some stuff that may be relevant:
Various RF test gear (Power meter, spectrum analyser (with currently broken sweep circuit, never got around to sorting it), a scope or two), some high vac kit (A couple of V60 turbopumps and controllers), various power supplies, RF amplifiers and other junk from playing with making my own transistors.

    Any possible interest?

    Regards, Dan.

  5. Bob Clough says:

Dan: We’re definitely interested in any oscilloscopes and power supplies you want to get rid of, I’m not 100% sure about the other stuff, i’d suggest posting to the HACMan mailing list at http://hacman.org.uk/list to see if anyone on there wants it.

    Hi Nick,

Good to hear from you. We have lots of various people who turn up, I don’t know anyone who would count themselves as a internet hacker but we have plenty of avid software coders who come down most weeks. We also do a lot of electronics and robotics and we have plenty of kit to play with. Don’t worry about the electrical theory side of it, most of our members aren’t into the theory and its very much a try, do and learn as you go situation. It all depends on what you want to do. Anyway we are always interested in meeting like minded people so it would be great if you could come down. We meet every wednesday night from seven pm and on one sunday a month. All the details and directions are on the website and we look forward to seeing you there,

    Cheers

    Alex
