Title: Mad Graphic Novel Group
Description: A discussion group for those looking to talk, argue, debate about graphic novels, comics, comix and web-comics.
Start Time: 19:00
End Time: 21:00
On Tuesday the 5th, the mad graphic novel group will be discussing Chris Ware’s ‘Jimmy Corrigan, the smartest kid on earth’. Chris Ware’s work is famous for its stunning artwork and thoroughly depressing themes and this book is no different. This book will be hosted by the Grand Poobah of MadLab @Hwayoung
As the book name implies, the focus is on Jimmy Corrigan, a meek, lonely middle aged man, controlled by his mother. The main story focuses on his experiences such as Jimmy’s meeting with his father who was absent through his childhood alongside a story focusing on Jimmy Corrigan’s grandfather as a child in the 1890’s confronted with isolation and an abusive father.
This month we have no web comic but I thought we would do something a little different instead. As some may have noticed (or maybe not ha-ha) on our Facebook page , we have a plan to start some discussion groups not solely on graphic novels but graphic novel inspired movies as well, maybe looking at comparisons.
I also want us to have more comic book/ graphic novel associated activities going on at the MadLab. There is so much techy stuff in this place and in my opinion, knowing the skills of the individuals in our group, many a fantastic thing could be done.
The usual two for Tuesday deal on Domino’s pizza is on so please bring money if you are interested. Remember to bring a quid or two as a donation to the MadLab, the building in which our lovely group is held. Also, a merchandise list will be there at the next meeting as many people bought the wonderfully original MadLab coasters in the last meeting, we will show you the full extent of the cool products made here. I have one of the T-shirt and its one of my favourites.
So hope to see you all there!!!
