Manchester Raspberry Jam

Title: Manchester Raspberry Jam 2
Location: MadLab
Description: The Raspberry Pi is a credit card sized computer with an ARM chip that runs Linux and you can buy one for about £30. It’s designed to bring the hype of BBC Basic back in to schools – you just plug one in to a TV or monitor, attach a keyboard and mouse, and start programming!
Date: 14-07-2012
Start Time: 10:00
End Time: 15:00
Register: This event has has passed. The upcoming event can be found here

The format of the event will be in the style of an ‘unconference’ – with talks, demos, tutorials and workshops going on throughout the day – put on by willing participants – and everyone has the freedom to attend the sessions or simply plug in their Pi and have a play with it or group up with others and share ideas. We’ve received some sponsorship money from supporters (still looking for more – please get in touch!) so we can lay on some food for attendees

  1. Do you have an agenda of any kind for the raspberry jam? I am thinking of coming to this but i’d like to know what the scope is going to be. I am a long time IT professional with also an educational interest. I could also possibly bring a couple of my pi’s with me.

    Hi Steve

The agenda will be much like last time – an intro from the host (or guest speaker), followed by discussion, followed by unconference-style sessions. Some people will give talks or demos throughout the day which will be scheduled on the day, and there will be the chance for everyone to do whatever they like, play with their own Pi or group together to share ideas and work on things with the group.

Do bring your Pis with you – I’m sure it’ll be good to get a discussion going with a mind on education – there will be younger participants there too!

  3. Chris Armitage says:

Booked a ticket, I’ll be bringing along my Pi. Is it best to bring all the peripherals too?

  4. Ben Nuttall says:

    Hi Chris

Great – certainly do bring the necessary cables, and any alternate output cables and converters you have will come in handy. As for monitors, if you are driving or live close enough and it’s convenient to, do bring one, but don’t worry if not because there’ll be a few available and we won’t necessarily need one each.

Look forward to seeing you there.

    Ben

  5. Ashley McDonald says:

Will it be possible to buy a ticket on the door? I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it and don’t want to risk buying a ticket in advance.

  6. Ben Nuttall says:

Yes – assuming all tickets don’t sell out by then. Hope to see you there.

  7. GeoMeek says:

Any chance of video capture and share later?

  8. Ben Nuttall says:

I plan to do a Google Hangout at the next event for some armchair participation – and the video can be made available on YouTube afterwards I think.
