Last week we were invited to a sneak preview of the new facilities at Manchester Central Library ahead of the reopening on 22nd March. There’s no denying that we’ve been missing the Library since it closed for the big makeover last year and we jumped at the chance to go along for a nosey. Along with the beautiful interior updates, the Library reopens with a brand new ‘Media Lounge’, a state of the art technology suite that is home to a host of iMacs, PCs and gaming consoles. What’s more, the library is offering the space for groups who are looking for a place to meet and create! Here’s what the team at MCL had to say about it:
Lonely iMac Seeks Friendly User….
Manchester Central Library opens on 22 March, incorporating the Media
Lounge, a new space for creativity. It will include a range of technology
including new iMacs and PCs and creative software such as Adobe Creative
Suite as well as the latest gaming consoles.
We’re looking for partners, groups and volunteers to make the most of the
Media Lounge, developing into a place where people learn from each other
and use new skills to create content in all sorts of ways: workshops,
1-2-1s, informal learning.
You could be an artist or maker, community worker, mentor, recording and
media expert, game designer, programmer, Apple Mac tutor, content
navigator, or just looking for a space for your group to meet and make
If you or your group are interested in the space or know anyone that is, please get in touch with Jonathan Ebbs(firstname.lastname@example.org) or Sue Lawson
A big thanks to Central Library for showing us around, we can’t wait to see the Media Lounge in action!
