Januarys meetup on the 14th will see our next speaker night (which we’ll be calling BLAB from now on) and will be held at MadLabs new hack space at 36-40 Edge Street, M4 1HN (“opposite common and behind cup”).

The reason for this is that the BBC would like to talk to us and take questions about @North pilot scheme, the details of which are below.

MadLab will take to the floor first explain what the space is all about.

We’re also sorting out another talk for that night, more details on that to come.

Once the talks are finished we can either cross the road to Common for more drinks or make the 1 minute 30 second walk to our old haunt The Northern, let me know which you prefer.

@North, Q&A session

@North is a pilot scheme to encourage and support the development and delivery of interactive content for children.  Designed to enable the BBC to develop relationships with companies in the North of England, a total budget of £500,000 has been ring fenced for four commissions by CBBC andCBeebies.

CBBC and CBeebies have a technology savvy audience who are hungry for new experiences. Interactivity is at the core of what the BBC offers this audience.

This is why @North is such an exciting opportunity for northwest companies from TV independents and animation companies, to social media, web companies and games developers

Mario DuBois, Project Director for @North will be hosting two events in the Northwest to explain this exciting opportunity and how your company can get involved.

The deadline for applications will be the 22nd January.
