A rocket stove is a sustainable fuel efficient cooking stove, with minimal smoke production. There are many different stove designs and uses, but they can all mostly be made from reused materials. The fuel chamber and chimney are insulated, so the heat is used efficiently with little lost to the surroundings. Rocket stoves can be used as indoor / outdoor cookers, or even heaters and boilers indoors! For more info and to see one come along to the workshop…

What to expect

We will start with an introduction to rocket stoves in general and various designs, followed by a short question and answer session. We will then go on to look at the construction of a specific design in detail, taking apart a demo stove to inspect the insides.

Following the structure of Manchester Permaculture Network meetings, the workshop will include food and eating, and lots of it! Please bring a dish to share (about the quantity that you would eat), and the next part of the workshop is eating together.

Lovely idea! Rocket stoves are a really technology.

Please consider offering another session of this workshop on a weekend day — we’d love to come, but evening meetings are out for us for transport reasons.

Sorry for getting round to posting this so late, but a good site is:

    http://www.aprovecho.org/web-content/media/rocket/rocket.htm

The Aprovecho Research Centre originally developed rocket stoves and there are plenty of resources there. Another usefull site is:

    http://www.rocketstove.org/

There are lots of different sites and plans out there because apart from some central principles, rocket stoves designs can be tailored to the house/ person.

To find out more come to the workshop! :)
