Title: Standards>next
Location: MadLab
Description: standards>next is an informal series of of short talks, presentations and discussions about cutting-edge web standards topics such as HTML5, CSS3, accessibility, SVG and more.
Start Time: 19:00
Date: 2010-09-29
End Time: 22:00

The popular standards>next series of talks is coming to Manchester!

In what we’re hoping will be the first of many semi-regular (every two to three months) sessions “up north”, the dynamic duo of Bruce Lawson and Patrick H. Lauke from Opera‘sDeveloper Relations team will take you on a whirlwind tour of HTML5. No hype, no lengthy theoretical discussions – 2 hours of live coding demonstrations (look out for the hilarious typos) that will take you from the basics of some of the new structural elements and the bizarre new world of the outline algorithm right to the fancy new features like native audio/video and canvas.

Bring your laptop and code along, or just sit back and let Bruce and Patrick show you how you can start to leverage some of the new features and functionalities of HTML5. And make sure to stick around for a few well-deserved drinks at Common across the road.

This event is run in association with Fly the Coop and Speak the Web. As always, it’s free for all to attend but places are limited.

  1. This event is fully booked

  2. Might be worth removing the “free for all to attend” from the event description when the event requires registration and a ticket which are of limited supply.

  3. standards>next Here are some photos from the day, big crowd!

  4. “free for all to attend but places are limited.” is better but http://standards-next.org/2010/09/html5-from-the-ground-up/ and http://standards-next.org/2010/11/html5-from-the-ground-up-redux/ still have just “free for all to attend.” I guess you are trying to get over that there is no fee to attend and there is no criteria to meet for registration (apart from limited supply of tickets) but it can give the impression that you can just turn up on the day with out any ticket or registration. I would have something like “the registration has no fee or criteria but tickets are limit.”.
