CryptoParty-Mcr

CryptoParty-Mcr

When we stand at a cash machine or at the reception desk of the doctors surgery, we expect people to keep their distance. When we work on our laptops, text our friends or read a book in a public place – we don’t want people to lean over our shoulders. When we sit and talk in a café or on the train, we feel uncomfortable when someone appears to be listening too intently. In the physical world we expect normal, every-day privacy… so why do those same rules not apply on-line?

If you would like to learn how to ensure normal, every-day privacy when using your computer, tablet or mobile phone, then come to CryptoParty-Mcr. You can learn simple and effective ways to encrypt your emails and chat, and how to browse the internet anonymously. By using encyrption, you will protect
your privacy, and help to protect the privacy of others, including political and environmental activists from all around the world.

Our Next Event will be on the 7th of December – tickets are free and cake will be provided. Bring your phone, tablet, laptop etc!

A fun, friendly and creative group for people intrested in learning more and teaching more about Free Software.  If use or would like to use Free Software, that is software published under a licence which gives you the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software, then this group is for you! What ever your Free Software passions, whether you be a newbie or an expert, you always will be given a warm welcome and usually some cake too! At this month’s meeting, we are planning our CryptoParty and a Free Your Android workshop, as well as discussing a possible WordPress event in the future.

Our CryptoParty which will be on the 7th of December. A CryptoParty is a great way for people to learn how to easily encrypt their email and chat, and how to browse the internet more securely. On-line encryption helps us to protect our own and other people’s privacy and sends a statement to GCHQ, and other naughty peeping folk, that we don’t want to live in a “Big Brother” society. Remember, if someone was peeping in through your living room curtains, or reading your laptop screen over your shoulder on the train, it would be considered rude and freak you out… privacy is normal and basic in the real world, so why should the digital world be any different?  This workshop is especially aimed at activists and journalists and people who would like to support them.
