After the success of Geeks Talk Sexy part 2, its now the time for the geeks talk sexy flash light to cast a light on the subject of being Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transsexual in geek culture in 2011. We’ll be looking at the attitudes of there fellow geeks and how the infighting causes even more confusion. We’ll also be asking the same question we asked of our straight people, how do you meet people / how have you met people?

Ben Light, (@doggyb) Professor of Digital Media at the University of Salford, is well known for his views on LGBT issues and regularly talks about how LGBT people are treated in greater society. Following his electrifying talk on Gaydar at TedxManchester we have got roped him into talking about being gay in geek culture. Expect another electrifying talk!

In the 2nd event of the “Geeks Talk Sexy” series we are going to explore “The other half of the population”*

How do girl geeks and guy geeks interact in the geek community? What happens when we go from techy hack day to romantic hack date? What are the problems we have to overcome? And what can we do to make everyone feel comfortable in their role?

Join us for an evening of fun discussions, take a tour of the stories everyone should know, get ready for your 60-seconds-rant, find out how other geeks meet their dream partners, figure out the DOs and DON’Ts of geeky dating, and hear about the good dates, the bad dates, and the pretty f***ing awful dates.

We have learned from the first event and listened to your feedback – be prepared for even more fun & insights.

* Disclaimer: We are fully aware that this title is only a vague approximation to reality and that gender is not just binary. We are in no way assuming that there are only straight, cis, monogamous, male or female geeks in this community. For the purpose of this talk we picked the most obvious intersection for arising problems, which is the role of women in the geek community that is usually only discussed from a professional point of view. We hope this decision does not offend anyone and that people of all genders and orientations join us for the talk. Please do get in touch if you have got serious concerns.
