Girl Geek Tea Party

Title: SkepLit Book Group meets Girl Geek Tea Party #17
Location: MadLab
Description: For our August tea party at MadLab, we’ll be teaming up with the SkepLit book group! SkepLit is the official book club for Greater Manchester Skeptic Society, which meets twice monthly for a talk and social.
Start Time: 14:00
Date: 2011-08-28
End Time: 16:00

In August, we will be discussing ‘The Age of Spiritual Machines’ by Ray Kurzweil. Published thirteen years ago, the book contains Kurzweil’s predictions about the possibilities presented by a future full of computers. It includes a list of predictions for 10, 20 and 30 years into the future.

Since the first year of predictions has passed (2009), this is a chance to discuss how accurate they turned out to be, and what we think of the chances of his other ideas coming true might be. Hey, we might even start making our own predictions.
This is a great opportunity to discuss the effect of the computer and internet on our lives, how futurologists make their predictions and how accurate they turn out to be.
Join us for tea, cake and skeptical geekery!

The rules: no female, no entry

Girl Geek events are for the ladies! But it doesn’t mean that men can’t attend, they just have to come as the guest of a female.

  • If you are male and wish to attend the event then you will need to be invited by a female attending the event.
  • Girls, one date only please! (We want to keep the numbers balanced!)
  • The best way around these rules if you’re a guy who wants to attend? Convince or bribe someone to let you be their date for the dinner.

Review on Manchester Girls’ Geek Afternoon Tea Party

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Review on Manchester Girls’ Geek Afternoon Tea Party.

This was another opportunity for all the women from different sectors of Science and Engineering field to come together and have a Chit chat with tea and biscuits. It was also a great opportunity for them to bring up any research they have done and talk about it.

The programme was scheduled to start at 2 and guests arrived right on time. Professional time!!!!. There were around 13 guests altogether and they were all very friendly. I saw some familiar faces from last dinner. It was like another friends reunion as they recognized me from last time. (more…)
