FAQs

Who can come?

Anyone. There’s no lower or upper age limit, and no prior knowledge is required. We regularly get under 8s and over 60s attending.

What’s the schedule?

We start with an opening talk soon after 10.00, where I go over the Raspberry Pi community news and some interesting projects I’ve found. After that, people are free to work on whatever they want. If you don’t know what to do, we’ll find someone to pair you up with so you can learn from them.

What do I need to bring?

If you have a Pi, bring it. Also bring any cables you might need. We have a few monitors people can use but if you have one you can bring (if you’re driving) then that would help. If you have a Pi but haven’t used it yet, bring an SD card so we can help you get started and you can carry on using it at home.

Do I need to know any programming?

No. If you want to learn to code, you can. However, you can use the Pi for plenty of other things besides code.

I can’t get there for the 10am start. Is that ok?

That’s fine. You can come and leave as you please.

I bought a ticket but now I can’t make it. What do I do?

If you go in to your eventbrite account and view your order, you can request a refund. I will issue any refund request received before the day of the Jam.

Is there a Raspberry Jam closer to where I live?

Quite possibly! There are a lot, all over the country. Some close Jams are Preston, Sheffield, and Ormskirk. See the Raspberry Jam network website for a full listing.

Can I drop my kids off and pick them up at the end?

No. Children under 16 must be supervised at all times. One adult can be responsible for multiple children. Over 16s are welcome unsupervised and can take the student ticket price of £3.

What food is provided?

We usually provide pizza (free of charge) to attendees provided by sponsors and/or contributions. If you have any dietary requirements please let me know. Vegetarian pizza has always been provided as an option.

Where does the ticket money go?

All proceeds are given directly to the Madlab as a donation towards their running costs. Madlab is a not-for-profit organisation.
