Manchester Women’s Design Group Buzzing with Ideas – we need your help to action them!

We have lots of ideas on how we want to influence women’s issues in the next 12 months culminating in an event at International Women’s day in March next year. But we need your natural organising skills to help us plan!!!

MATERIALS PROVIDED AND A CUP OF TEA – Just bring your organising skills!

Here are just a few key ideas we want to develop:

Tweet a toilet
help us to plan a campaign which will reduce queues and make toilets a better place for women in the future

Blog a Buddy – Supporting women in construction
How can we help signpost women to make sure they get the help they need in an environment dominated by men? Signposting, networking making contacts – what’s the best way of showing support?

Welfare Reform
• Bedroom tax – how is it impacting on women who are still the principle carers of children and dependents?
• What impact does the closure of facilities such as libraries have on women?
• Are the austerity measures having a disproportionate impact?

Orienteering for planners and councillors – tied into International Women’s day
We want to plan an event setting everyday challenges for people with influence, such as:
• To take a pram to the toilet
• Send an email from a local facility

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Interested in photography but don’t know where to start? Perhaps you are looking to expand your skills and advance your creative work. Could it be that you just have some free time and you’d like to spend it with fellow creative photographer types?

The photography sessions are for you. The sessions are a short course that will cover the fundamentals of photography, developing your knowledge and skills through a wealth of information and practice.

Each session will be split into a

short informal lecture,
a practical photo walk/shoot allowing you to apply the theory and

a open discussion about anything (photography related) which will be simultaneously broadcast via Google hangout to the Web, for the opportunity to interact with the wider community.

Each session we will look to learn some technical theory that will help our understanding of photography, camera mechanics, light and subject as well as creating some unique and inspirational photos through the practical shoots.

All that is needed for this course is a camera, a desire to take photos and enthusiasm. There are no assumptions about ability, camera type or even cake. Come and be a part of some photography fun.

join the discussion on glassboard.

Brewer's Group

Title: Brewers’ Group
Location: MadLab
Description: Brewers’ Group is a collection of both professional and amateur brewers, beer trade workers, beer enthusiasts or people who just want to learn a little more about beer and how it’s made.
Date: 24-10-2012
Start Time: 19:00
End Time: 21:00

Brewers’ Group is a collection of both professional and amateur brewers, beer trade workers, beer enthusiasts or people who just want to learn a little more about beer and how it’s made.

The group aims to connect people from the entire beer spectrum so that we can share knowledge and experiences in order to learn from each other in an informal forum kindly hosted by MadLab. We would like the group to be lead by the interests of its members, but we’ve had some thoughts:

Talks about brewing
Experiences from industry,
Your home-brew set up,
Recipe development,
The science behind the brewing processes,
How to market beer and selling to the end-user, and
Open forum for discussions or Q and As.
Scientific Experiments
Yeast identification and development,
Hop analysis,
Grain characterisation,
development of novel brewing techniques
Brew-days
Collaborative brewing, and
practical experience with new techniques or ingredients.
Tastings
Examine how your beer has turned based on your recipe, and
Constructive comments from fellow Brewer’s Group members.
Visits and Brewery Tours

Brewers’ Group welcomes Toby McKenzie from Red Willow Brewery to talk about life at Red Willow. There’ll be some samples to try and your chance to learn how certain tastes are developed through the brewing process. It’ll be an opportunity to really get to meet the brewer!
We’d then like to give you the opportunity to air your ideas about where you’d like to see the group go in the future.
Lastly, home brew tasting. Please bring in your own creations for people to try and get some valuable feedback about your beer.
Finally, to a local pub for more informal chat.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on what you’d like to learn, share and get involved with.
