Interested in Google Technology? In Manchester? Then this is the group for you. Meeting at 7pm on the first Monday of every month, at MadLab’s premises (second floor), we’re a small and friendly bunch of people who have a passion for various things Google. From Android, App Engine and APIs to Wave and other things at the end of the alphabet, we’re interested. And if you are too, you’re at the right place, and in the right company. Moreover, we’ve got our own little project to boot! Non-Destructive Marginalia, bringing the physical and virtual worlds closer together. Using sellotape with “Google” imprinted upon it. Well, almost.

Follow @mangtug on Twitter, and hope to see you there!

Theme: Physical Book Annotation Project (Next Steps) and Google Visualization API

Ok, so we got a little distracted (in a nice way) by Android App Inventor, and hacking on our Android-powered phones, but this time it’s coding for real! We didn’t quite make our first QR code and first book scan – perhaps we’ll do it this time. And everyone seems to be bringing their laptops this time, so get ready for some serious fun, or some serious design and coding. Or are they the same thing?

In case we get bored, I’ve also been looking at the Google Visualization API, and unless anyone has anything they’d prefer to speak about or hear, I don’t mind forcing your attention on this beautiful little set of data-orientated eye-candy utilities.

Be there!

Following on from last month’s meeting, where we defined the project, created a project on Google Code Hosting, and started coding, we’ll take the next steps and see if we can’t get something working for our first book, and our first QR code. Thing is, which book should it be? After all, it’ll be a great honour, an historic moment, perhaps!

What’s more, I have been lucky enough (thanks to the GTUG organisers at Google) to have gained early access to the fantastic looking Android App Inventor, so it’ll be worth coming along for an early play with this stuff.

Nice!
