Simon Bennetts will be introducing OWASP, the Open Web Application Security Project, and the OWASP Top 10.  Whether you are using web applications, or developing them, you will want to know the kind of security problems that you will encounter, and how to protect against them.  OWASP provides one of the most comprehensive web application security resources.

Simon is an OWASP volunteer, one of the OWASP Leeds Chapter leaders, and project leader for the Zed Attack Proxy.  At Sage, he is a technical team lead, designs and builds web applications, and specialises in web application security.

Summary:

There will be some embedded Linux kit to have a look at such as guru plug etc.

I apologise for the lack of a talk, if anybody else has any new Linux kit
that Santa bought them or something that works on Linux (embedded wise etc)
that we can ssh into that would be interesting. Does anybody have an OLPC?

Also I would be interested in the topic’s people are interested in to
allow us to plan for the rest of this year.

Introduction to iptables and packet filtering.

Speaker: Richard Ibbotson
- Location: Madlab. (Manchester Digital Laboratory). Upstairs.
- Address: 36-40 Edge Street, Manchester. M4 1HN.
- (Between Thomas Street and the Craft Centre, opposite A Bar Called Common)

Richard Ibbotson from Sheflug has very kindly agreed to visit Manlug, the talk is a brief introduction to iptables and packet filter with some examples. He will show an easy to use graphical interface that should help the end user to understand how to eventually get to the point where they can write their own rules with a text editor.

Hope to see you all there.
