Last month’s discussions looked at Manchester City Council’s forthcoming hackathon. This month there is feedback from ODM’s meetings with Trafford (DataGM) and TfGM.

Manchester City Council are planning to run a hackahon this summer but before they set any dates they’d be interested to hear from the developer community to find if there were any particular data sets we would like to get your hands on. Someone from Manchester City Council will be at the meeting to get feedback and hopefully we can help shape the event so it is a success.

2012 will be a landmark year for open data. There will be a number of Government and EU policy decisions will take hold and open data will help dig us all out of the economic mess that we find ourselves in – well that is what a number of people have been saying anyway.
The last Open Data Manchester was fascinating with Paul Gallagher giving an insight as to how the Manchester Evening News uses, collects data. This was particularly relevant to the coverage of the riots during and after. More detail can be found on the Open Data Manchester website.
We will be welcoming Craig Berry – Information Manager at TfGM and Dave Busby – Integrated Systems Manager. Craig has been key in helping TfGM release open data and Dave’s area is multi-modal transportation and realtime systems. They will be on hand to update as to how and when the next releases of data will happen.
There are also a couple of initiatives that will be starting up in Manchester around Open Data and Internet of Things and hopefully we will be able to reveal some details

We have a packed programme this month
Paul Gallagher from Manchester Evening News is going to talk about the recent published articles that use open and court data link.
Open Data Manchester is now constituted so we’ll look at what that means – if anything.
3rd December is the International Open Data Hackathon and Manchester will be participating.
