Fancy hacking the Government into shape? Want to create websites and applications that can help you, your school, town, country or the world?

Young Rewired State is here again, open to developers aged 15 to 18 yrs with some ability to code.

This year we are going to be running a slightly different event that is essentially a hack week for young developers across the country to go and build visualisations, digital and/or non-digital products using government data, alongside working devs in businesses across the UK. These would be presented back to government at the end of the week, either in person, or by live stream from wherever you are based.

It is open to anyone aged 15 to 18 (although certain businesses may not be able to take the under-16s) who can work with data, coding or design.

Young Rewired State Manchester

In Manchester we plan to host a Young Rewired State.  This event will be a chance to find out more, hear an inspirational story, ask questions and sign up!

Guest speaker

We will be joined by Chris Taggart from OpenlyLocal.  Chris is a “veteran” of the emerging open data scene having established a website and service that scrapes and represents local government data for all.  Chris is also member of the Local Public Data Panel and the Working Group on Open Government Data at the Open Knowledge Foundation.

Chris will tell us about some of the advantages and pitfalls of working with open data, including the valuable lesson of “learning to fail”… (see slides from his presentation at Future Everything)

This event is aimed at:

  • Anyone aged 15-18 with an interest working with data and code, and taking part in Young Rewired State
