Blog: Major Transitions

Posted by Team MadLab, about 1 year ago

MadLab director Asa Calow has just got back from Paris where he’s been presenting at Major Transitions in Digital Society – a workshop organised by the Centre for Research and Interdisciplinarity (CRI –

Led by Martin Hillbert, the workshop brought together an eclectic mix of eminent thinkers to identify the challenges posed by the current digital transition of society. Its goal: to chart the way forward.

Asa talked about the future of leisure in a work-free society, and advised on CRIs future Major Transitions research programme which will kick-off later on this year/ early next. We also bumped into our friends Hackteria who were running an open hardware and microfluidics workshop nearby. If you’ve never heard of them, check them out at for freewheeling art-sci madness.

CRI is developing an open and collaborative research program to tackle the world’s challenges, focusing on bridging foundational research and societal impact: from tracing past major transitions to understanding and shaping current digital transition.
