We’ve just announced our Making it Digital programme – a series of free digital fabrication workshops and courses designed to equip unemployed and underemployed women with skills to kickstart careers, launch businesses and open up new job opportunities in technology and beyond!

The sessions will cover a series of introductory, digital making activities; from operating, designing and producing prototypes with 3D printing and laser cutting, to learning the nuts and bolts of coding with BBC micro:bits. You can find detailed information about all of the workshops and seminars in the series on the dates page.

SEMINAR: Meet a Maker – Gemma Latham
Wednesday 16 May  6:00 – 8:00pm

Gemma May Latham is a participatory artist/maker who interprets textiles through digital and analogue processes. Gemma creates interventions and installations that explore traditional craft skills. She embraces processes that are intrinsically slow, creating a calming effect that allows time to connect with both process and material.

WORKSHOP: Laser Cut Acrylic Jewellery

Join us to learn the principles of creating laser cut acrylic jewellery, from design through to production. Perfect for budding designers and makers who want to create unique products in this versatile medium.

WORKSHOP: Laser Cutting for Manufacturing
Monday 21 May 5:30 – 8:30pm

In this 3 hour workshop, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of laser cutting and it’s common uses in manufacturing.

WORKSHOP: micro:bit Session 1
Wednesday 23 May 5:30 – 8:30pm

This beginner-friendly workshop offers an introduction to physical programming with the micro:bit – a small programmable computer with more than 10 adaptable physical features.

WORKSHOP: 3D Printing and 3D Scanning
Monday 4 June 5:30 – 8:30pm

Get to grips with the basics of 3D scanning and printing in this introductory workshop. Try out the Sense 3D scanner and learn how to convert your 3D scans into 3D printable files.

WORKSHOP: micro:bit Session 2
Wednesday 6 June 5:30 – 8:30pm

Following on from micro:bit Session 1, Session 2 will explore wearable technology through prototype castings, wearable circuits and innovative design. Experiment with a cross section of medium to create a uniquely crafted, wearable exercise machine.
