Video CVs are an excellent way for jobseekers to reach potential employers, and market their skills & attributes in a way which goes beyond just a written CV. This is especially important for unemployed young people, who may have less experience on paper but lots of untapped talent and ambition.
In 2014-15, MadLab has been involved in Video CV Europe, a pan-European initiative comprising four partner countries – Italy, Greece, Spain and the UK. As the UK training provider, MadLab is working in partnership with Manchester City Council and local young peoples’ organisations to look at ways in which Video CVs can increase the employability of people who are not in education, employment or training.
You can see some of the results, from participants who have agreed to make their video CV public, in the project’s Vimeo album. We should also point out that during the project, our cameraman and editor won an emmy!*
* although not for a video CV, rather his work on the BBC2 series of shorts Same but different, which educates primary school children about disability.
