Make Stuff (2) was a creative place-making festival delivered in central Stockport between December 2023 and May 2024. Developed in collaboration with residents, it took place at community venues across the town. Supported by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund, it delivered 125 activities (totalling 330 hours) to over 1700 people.
Events included family days, creative digital workshops, hackathons, an unconference, online courses, and talks. These were delivered by a multidisciplinary team of 24 creative technologists, web developers, musicians, photographers and artists from across Stockport and Greater Manchester - as well as 80 volunteers. The programme created five jobs, including two junior roles for long-term unemployed Stopfordians.
Make Stuff was informed by foresight analysis from the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre, and the success of a previous iteration of Make Stuff which won the Big Chip Tech-for-Good Award in 2017.
“It was such a welcoming environment and put me in a brilliant mood. Thank you to the team. I feel very lucky to have these sorts of things available in Stockport!” - Audience
